It offers a hands-on, experiential approach to learning, the chance to meet and interact with student groups across grade levels, and a unique opportunity to grow in our understanding, appreciation, and support of each other and our local and global community.

Do you enjoy the limelight? Take advantage of your chance to steal the show in a theatre intensive with Broadway's Jared Gertner. Participants will learn and grow as actors, singers, dancers, and storytellers for four days. You will have the opportunity to perform solos, duets, and group numbers. Mr. Gernter will also devote time to real-world skills of navigating life in "the business," such as the audition process and film vs. TV acting. This Winterim will culminate with a stage presentation for family and friends.

Scuba - PADI® Advanced Open Water Course (Must be Open Water certified):
The Advanced Open Water Diver course is all about advancing your skills. You'll practice navigation and buoyancy, try deep diving and make three specialty dives of your choosing (it's like a specialty sampler platter). For every specialty dive you complete, you can earn credit toward PADI® specialty certifications.
Here are a few of the many options: Deep, Digital Underwater Photography, Dive Against Debris, Dry Suit, Enriched Air Nitrox, Fish Identification, Night, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Search & Recovery, Underwater Naturalist, Underwater Navigation, and Wreck Diver.

Can you imagine dancing on the air for four fun-filled days of Aerial Arts! Students of all levels are welcome. Each morning will begin with various warmups such as pilates, core strengthening, and stretching. We will then have a full Aerial workshop focussing on two apparatus, the Lyra and the Silks. In addition, you will learn some circus secrets by Heather Boothe from Maui Aerial Arts. Students will bring their own water and lunch each day; some snacks will be provided.
Students will meet at Maui Aerial Arts in Haiku at 8:30pm and be picked up from there at 2:30pm; no transportation will be provided for this Winterim.

In this winterim students will experience the love for the land, the people and the community. Students will visit Waipā and learn and experience ahupuaʻa land stewardship through Hawaiian values, especially kuleana. Students will learn about Hawaiian fishpond aquaculture through experiential learning at Alakoko fishpond, and visit cultural sites throughout Kauaʻi. This program will be hosted by the Alakoko fishpond ʻohana and students will camp in tents at the fishpond. Students need their own sleeping bags.

Arrive at the Maui Ocean Center on time each day and spend your week working up close and personal with the critters there. You’ll learn how to care for marine animals and educate the public about the importance of Maui’s coral reefs. During this hands-on experience, rotating in small groups, you will be taught by MOC aquarists and naturalists and assisted by curators as you feed and measure turtles, moon jellies, reef fish and various corals. You will be cleaning exhibits, recording behavioral data, speaking with visitors and much more! Lunch is included. NEEDED: Wetsuit or rash guard, mask, and transportation. Program is offered to 9 students only.

Learn the ancient art of beekeeping! Join us at the local Pono Grown Farm Center for four days of hands-on experience keeping bees. You’ll learn the full process of beekeeping from how to start and care for a hive to harvesting and processing the honey. Along with beekeeping, we’ll also tour the farm and get our hands dirty by prepping beds, planting, and harvesting vegetables. Finally, you’ll get to cool off after a day of working on the farm at Pono Grown Farm Center’s own water slide, which ends in a pond. This is sure to be a memorable experience for all involved.

Do you want to help grow food for Seabury Hall's lunches? Then you'll love this Winterim. In collaboration with City Greens Community Farm you will create a small scale farm to school program. To do this you will establish one or more spaces on campus to promote sustainability, grow food, and educate your community. After a campus walkthrough, you'll help establish and build: garden spaces, hydroponic towers, raised beds, a greenhouse and outdoor classroom, meditation spaces, a food forest, container garden spaces and of course plant fruits and vegetables to nourish our school community.

In addition to organizing a shopping trip for fresh ingredients, students will spend Monday-Thursday cooking in the commercial kitchen at St. John’s Church in Keokea. Drones are taking over! Learn how to fly the latest drones, including programming them for autonomous flight and data capture techniques such as photogrammetry to generate high-resolution 3D imagery that can be used as virtual environments for gaming and interactive storytelling.

Spend your week helping out at the East Maui Animal Refuge in Haiku. Known for over three decades as the Boo Boo Zoo, EMAR founder Sylvan Schwab and his crew are always in need of volunteers to assist with the needs of cats, goats, pigs, deer, sheep, turkeys, ducks, chickens, and just about every variety of bird you can imagine! We will be helping with whatever the most pressing need is, from fencing to feeding and everything in between. It’s a big job and the animals need daily attention and care. You’ll want to wear comfortable work clothes, bring gloves and boots, and perhaps your water bottle and a camera. We will meet on campus by 8:30 and load into vans for the trip to Haiku. Our work day will begin at 9:00 am and most days will end at 2:30 so we will will be back on campus by 3:00. Your program also includes lunch, drinks, and snacks. Your parents will be asked to complete and sign a work waiver.

Students will learn: the physiology of apnea (breath holding) and how to safely maximize it, the physiology and physics of equalization and how to apply it to effective diving, techniques to improve oxygen use efficiency in the water, how to check their own safety and that of their partner(s) in the water, how to rescue others who may be in distress in open water, how to properly use and manage freediving equipment. Students will also have the opportunity to earn either AIDA level 1 or level 2 certification through a written test and applied diving tests (passing the certification tests is not a requirement for joining the winterim), and the opportunity to put their new diving skills to work with a reef clean up session. Students must be at least 16 years old.

Help a family build their own home and know that, in addition to acquiring new skills and understanding, you will have forever defined the way this family views teenagers, strangers, and the world. When you help build a home for a neighbor you are building community and creating a true ohana. You may be asked to do anything from framing to landscaping by your experienced foreman. The home building is scheduled to take place in either Waiehu or Waiohouli. Van and beverages are included.

You'll collaborate with MISC (Maui Invasive Species Committee) to help maintain East Maui's delicate ecosystem in support of our native species. Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park is Hawai‘i’s number one natural attraction, with one of the world’s most active volcanoes--Kilauea. The park is designated as a World Heritage Site and an International Biosphere Reserve by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Other field trips may include the park’s native plant nursery and/or the rare plant propagation facility, growing some of the rarest species on earth. As guests of the Friends of Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park we will receive four night’s lodging and meals at the Kilauea Volcano Military Camp located inside the park.This program and access to professionals in botany, geology, and volcanology are also sponsored by the Friends of Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park: www.fhvnp.org. In this fun & hands-on visual art Winterim, you’ll create a variety of art projects while working in the professional studios at Hui No'eau Visual Arts Center. Participants will have 1 day each Abstract Painting, Sumi-e Ink, Intro to Block Printing with foam, and Sumi Marbling. Please wear close-toed shoes with hair tied back and bring a water bottle and lunch (no microwave) every day. Transportation to the Hui is not provided.

If you are a Junior or Senior you may choose to use this one-time opportunity to travel to out-of-state colleges and universities. Visit with campus representatives and tour schools you may be considering, get a better feel for the larger community and environs and determine if it is a good fit for you. You will need to fill out and return a simple college intent form (available for download on the Seabury Hall website and in the Upper School Office) and submit it to the college counseling office by the due date, December 13th. If your plans change at a later date and you find you are unable to travel, please notify us and we will do our best to find a relevant program of interest for you.

Students selected for this College Trip will be traveling to Southern California to tour a wide range of colleges and universities. We will be visiting two institutions a day where we will take a campus tour, attend information sessions, and meet with admissions representatives. This trip is designed to expose students to a great diversity of schools, therefore the institutions will vary in size, location, mission statement, academic and social offerings, and more. Students will gain valuable insight on how to research colleges, connect with admissions officers, and effectively learn the differences between types of colleges. The cost includes air and ground transportation, hotels, and time at Disneyland. Breakfast and lunch will be covered, and spending money for dinner will be distributed each day to students. Students will want to bring extra spending money. Interested students are required to write a one-page response on what they hope to gain from visiting colleges. The Waiheʻe Coastal Dunes and Wetlands Refuge is 277 acres of opportunity. The week will include a variety of possible activities such as making cordage, lei, creating natural dyes and weaving. Students will also contribute to the returning health of the rare native ecosystems through hands-on service projects while also learning the Hawaiian history of the area. If all goes well weʻll end our days with a dip in the ocean or stream. The Hawai‘i Land Trust ensures that Waiheʻe Refuge, this rich cultural site, will be forever protected. Waiheʻe is often hot and windy. Participants should be prepareed with light colored clothes, hat, sunscreen, a refillable water bottle, wear closed toed shoes suitable for hiking and comfortable clothes that can get dirty. As well as be prepared for rain with a rainjacket. Also a bathing suit and towel for swimming. Students will need to pack their snacks and lunch for the day.

The Ocean Bound Winterim is a week of exploring the reefs of South and West Maui. Depending on conditions, students will participate in 2-3 swims of about an hour each, examine undersea life, and learn about the geography, geology, mythology, history, and oceanography of our local waters. One of the days will consist of a two-person kayak trip where students see the shore from a different perspective and the back side of a reef, and hopefully get up close and personal some of our marine life, including whales, sea turtles, rays, and fish. This is a great opportunity to put your face in the water and see what is below.
Note: it is important that you have a level of comfort in the water and don’t mind swimming. You do not need to own your own snorkeling gear.

Calling all artists: If you have a passion for visual art and want to make our campus more beautiful and artistic, then this is the perfect Winterim program for you. You'll be working with renowned street artist Matthew Agcolicol (https://www.agcolicolart.com/), whose public murals and art can be found in Wailuku and on O'ahu, to create works of art that will be displayed on our campus. Your group will travel to places around Maui to draw inspiration from the world around us to create murals that will adorn Seabury Hall.

It is a terrific opportunity for anyone interested in working with performance and/or entertainment venues and systems, including our own. Peter Della Croce will lead you into a deep dive of all things related to sound design, production and troubleshooting. Amy Lordʻs decades of experience working at the highest levels in television and live staged theater and music productions is a great opportunity for any beginner or advanced technician desiring more knowledge about lighting. Love the ocean and enjoy a challenge? Let's go Windsurfing! The skills learned in longboard sailing form the foundation for all windsurfing. Big boards and small sails will have you sailing out and back on your first lesson. Their stability lets you learn new skills quickly.
This Winterim will be an introductory lesson, where you learn how to steer the board, control power in the sail, and turn around. There are many skills to learn after your first lesson. Tacking, jibing, and sailing upwind are essential to proficient sailing.
If you enjoy being at the beach in any weather and having fun with your friends, this is the Winterim for you!
